Dixie's additional canon information
Oct. 22nd, 2012 06:26 pmDixie signed up as an Active shortly after he returned from his 2nd tour, it was the only way he could think of to cope with growing PTSD and the loss of his fiance.
Once his five years were up, he became a handler for a house in another city, as he didn't feel that he was qualified for much else.
Dixie got into the dream sharing business from the military, as so many did, when he was in training, everyone was trained with a primary skill, and a secondary one. His primary skill was always Extraction, because he's good with people, and his secondary skill was Chemistry.
Upon his return home, he extracted some information that he couldn't so easily forget, it isn't something he talks about, but it stopped him from continuing work as an extractor, he now bills himself as a Chemist and occasional Architect.
Dixie is a Guide who lost his Sentinel, he's fairly certain that the only reason he survived this was because they hadn't completed their bond. They were planning on doing so once he returned from his second tour.
After that he started working at a clinic for un-bonded Sentinels (and the occasional Guide) both those who never bonded and those who had lost their other half. On his own time, he also ran something of a halfway house for pairs (or singletons) who couldn't chance help through government means.
Dixie's fiance was the Hunter, he was sort of drawn into the life because of that, but just in an auxiliary position, research. He was the one to keep the home fires burning and be there to answer the phone and look things up as necessary.
When he returned, and people kept calling, or showing up, who hadn't heard about the accident, and he decided to just keep up what he'd been doing.
This isn't to say he's useless in the field, he isn't, he just prefers research to actual combat, he says that he had enough of that in the Gulf.
